FAQ

I don't see my scooter model listed?

You can probably search for your scooter model in our “Search” box. We have lots of performance and other miscellaneous items for Italjet, Malaguti and a few other scooter brands.

I can't find the part I'm looking for?

We have a few thousand items on our web site, but we have over 10,000 items in stock. If you don't see it listed on our web site and if it's for a Vespa, there's still a good chance we have it in stock. Please give us a call or email with anything you're looking for and we'll give you a yay or nay on whether we have it in stock or if we can order it for you. Please provide a part number or detailed description of the item you're looking for to help us find it for you.

Will this part fit my scooter?

We've done the best we can to make sure the part listed is for your scooter if we list it as such, but between USA models and Euro models and owner modifications, sometimes it just won't work for your application. If you have a problem with a part that was listed for your scooter but that didn't fit, please let us know so we can make it right for you.

On the flip side, a part not listed for your scooter may still fit or may be modified to fit, so if you have a question about doing this, give us a call or send an email.

Do you guys have a printed catalog?

We do not and we have no plans to print one in the future. This is the era of the Internet, and our philosophy dictates that there's no point in killing a ton of trees in order to make something that will be out-dated as soon as it comes off the press. This problem is made worse by fluctuating exchange rates, as well as the new items, discontinued items, and price changes (not to mention the ease with which we can solve all of these problems by having a website take care of them for us). Printed catalogs are a symbol of a bygone era. This isn't Sears, so save a log by logging on to our website.

You have an item listed as out-of-stock. Can I place the item on back-order and when will I receive the back-ordered item?

We tend to make an executive decision regarding back-ordered items. Some back-orders are submitted via the website for parts that we've been trying to get for a long time, parts that we're unsure we're ever going to get. In these cases, we'll generally tell customers that they're unavailable in lieu of back-ordering them.

At any other times, we are happy to back-order stuff. We'll take customer information, and we will charge the customer's credit card at the time of the order. After it has arrived back in stock, we will immediately ship out the back-ordered item. Customers waiting for back-ordered items are served before other customers on parts that have been out-of-stock.

How quickly do things ship out?

Our shop is open Tuesday-Saturday, so any orders placed over the weekend and on Monday are shipped on Tuesdays. Outside of that, we generally work to ship everything within 24 hours. We ship via UPS Ground, but other shipping options are available. International orders shipped via US mail will usually ship on Friday only.

What is your return policy?

Firstly, we do offer full refunds for the wrong item shipped or for damaged items. If this is the issue, please call us immediately at (619) 280-1718, and we'll be happy to take care of you.

Outside of damages or incorrect parts received, we are happy to accept returns of items in new condition. We charge a 20% restocking for any credit card refunds, but we also offer 100% full store credit on returns. In order to initiate a return, please contact us before sending back your item.

Customers are responsible for return shipping. Returned items should be packed well. All returns must be shipped via prepaid parcel post or UPS ground, and they can be sent to Motorsport Scooters, Returns Department, 4225 30th St., San Diego, CA 92104.

If you need a replacement item right away, we will charge you for the item, but we will credit you upon receiving and processing the returned item.

Please keep in mind that there will be a 20% restocking fee for all returns, unless the return is the result of our error. Motorsport Scooters reserves the right to deny a return on items damaged by the customer during installation or return shipping.

We cannot accept returns for merchandise damaged in shipping en route to the customer. If you receive damaged freight from us, save all packaging materials and call us so we can begin the claim process. If and when we are reimbursed for damaged goods, we will refund or replace them for you.

Special orders, electrical parts, tools, and manuals are NOT refundable.

Do you guys match prices?

Officially, we don't, but we're fair people and sometimes willing to deal to make a sale, so give us a crack. Please call or email, but be prepared to give us an official printed estimate. We will call the company to verify, (so don't just make something up) or point us to their website. We believe we already offer great pricing on everything (that is, everything worth buying!!!). If you want us to match a price advertised elsewhere, we might oblige if given a good example of the exact same item listed for less somewhere else. It has to be the EXACT SAME ITEM and must be CURRENTLY IN STOCK with our competitor. The picture and description might be the same, but many times other dealers will sell inferior quality parts for cheaper. We can't match those prices because MOTORSPORT SCOOTERS refuses to sell inferior parts. We want to do everything in our power to be your #1 supplier for any and all items that we carry so feel free to give us a chance. We will even be so willing to consider matching the price on an item as pricey as a NEW SCOOTER. Our same guidelines apply: the scooter must be in stock and be the exact same model, year, color, etc. We want to be your #1 Source for scooters and scooter supplies!

How come you guys are so cool?

It's easy to be awesome: a good attitude is all it takes. If we ourselves were new to scooters and trying to find information about scooters, we wouldn't be too excited to call people who didn't know anything about what they were selling, who just tried to fake it. All of our staff started off as scooterists themselves, and they all have an outstanding knowledge of all the scooters we sell. They can help you find the right ride for your ass or even parts for your ride: no up-selling, no bait-and-switch, no pressure, just good old-fashioned knowledge.

As for you lucky scooter owners, we got you covered too. Our parts and service are all 1st class. As for mail-order some other dealers have been know to only send you half the items you ordered, back-order the rest and then charge you for the whole order and then take months to send the rest. Some other service shop will take your scooter apart, take weeks to order your parts and leave you hang'n.  We get you, we understand what's up, because we all scoot too. We understand if your scooter is broken, you want it back on the road fast. That's why we try to keep 100% of our items in stock, and we send back-ordered items out as soon as possible. If the stuff isn't available, we'll let you know as soon as we know. Also, you'd only want good quality stuff, so we only order good quality stuff. In short, we try to be the people we'd like to deal with and treat all customer as we want to be treated. It's that easy.

“What comes around goes around.”

New Local Riders FAQ

Do you need a motorcycle license to ride a scooter in California?

You do need a motorcycle license, class M1, to ride a scooter legally in California, but it's not too tough to get (the process is described below). To buy a scooter in California, you will not need to show a motorcycle license but most dealers require that you sign a disclosure form to make sure you are aware that a motorcycle license is required to drive a scooter in California.

What's the process for getting a motorcycle license?

To get a motorcycle license is a two-step process. The first step is to get a permit at the DMV. It costs about $30 to do so and you have to take the written permit test. In order to prepare for the written test, you can study the DMV's motorcycle handbook, available online here. You can also get a free copy of the Motorcycle Handbook at the DMV or at our shop (we usually have spare copies for our customers). All of the questions from the DMV's permit test are taken from this handbook.

When you pass the written test, you'll have a permit with which you can drive a scooter or motorcycle, but with a permit you will not be allowed to drive on the freeway, to drive with a passenger, or to drive at night. Your permit is valid for one year, and at any point you can schedule your DMV practical test to get a full motorcycle license.

Alternately, some new riders prefer to take a motorcycle safety course. In these courses, new riders can learn defensive driving techniques and other important strategies for driving a two-wheeled vehicle. At the end of the motorcycle safety course, as long as the agency offering the course has been certified, they will issue new riders a waiver form with which riders can go into the DMV and receive their licenses without taking the DMV's practical driving test.

Must scooters be insured?

In California, all scooters must be insured. Our customers often pay a little over $200/year for full-coverage, so it's pretty inexpensive to insure a scooter, which adds to the overall cost savings of scootering over driving a car.

What about registration?

When you buy a new scooter from Motorsport Scooters, we will take care of your first year of registration for you. You won't have to go to the DMV or wait in line to get your vehicle title, license plate or registration stickers.
